Why We Designed a Terracotta Garden Hose

When we began developing our latest hybrid garden hose, we were not simply trying to create another colour.

We were trying to solve a different problem.

For decades, garden hoses have been designed purely as tools: something to use, coil up and hide away. Yet the gardens they live in have become carefully considered outdoor spaces, filled with natural stone, architectural planting, beautiful furniture and thoughtful design.

We believed a premium garden hose should feel just as considered as the garden around it.

As far as we know, our new Rust Hybrid Garden Hose is the first terracotta-inspired garden hose of its kind in Australia.

But being first was never the goal.

Designing something that truly belonged in the garden was.

Looking for a Garden Hose Colour That Felt Different

When we started exploring new garden hose colours, we spent time looking at what was already available.

There were plenty of greens, from traditional garden green to softer sage tones. There were blues, bright oranges, pastel shades and an increasing number of pink garden hoses.

Many of these colours had already been explored repeatedly. Some felt playful and fashionable, but we were looking for something more enduring.

We were not looking for something louder.

We were looking for something quieter.

A colour that could sit naturally within a modern Australian garden rather than demanding attention.

That was when we stopped looking at hoses and started looking at gardens.

Inspired by Terracotta, Clay and the Australian Landscape

The answer had been sitting in gardens all along.

Natural stone. Clay. Timber. Weathered steel. Old terracotta pots. Sun-baked pathways. Warm earth and faded masonry.

Terracotta is one of the oldest and most familiar materials used in garden design. It appears in Mediterranean courtyards, traditional Australian gardens, handmade pottery, roof tiles and architectural landscaping.

It brings warmth to an outdoor space without overpowering the surrounding plants and materials.

Our new colour is called Rust, but its inspiration comes from this broader terracotta palette. It sits somewhere between warm clay, weathered metal and sun-baked earth.

The result is a terracotta garden hose that works beautifully with limestone, concrete, brick, timber, corten steel, native planting and Mediterranean-style gardens.

Why Call the Colour Rust?

Terracotta describes the inspiration behind the colour, while Rust gives it a deeper and more architectural identity.

It is richer than orange, earthier than pink and more distinctive than the traditional greens commonly associated with garden equipment.

Depending on the light and its surroundings, the colour can appear like natural clay, aged terracotta or softly weathered steel.

It was designed to complement the garden rather than compete with it.

A Designer Garden Hose Made to Be Seen

Outdoor products should not interrupt a beautiful space.

We wanted to create a designer garden hose that looked considered enough to remain on display, rather than something that needed to be hidden away after every use.

Paired with a simple wall-mounted hose holder and solid brass fittings, the Rust hose becomes part of the outdoor design.

It adds warmth against pale rendered walls, natural stone and timber, while also creating a striking contrast against black or charcoal exteriors.

It is an unexpected colour for a garden hose, but it feels entirely familiar within the landscape.

Premium Design Without Compromising Performance

The colour may be new, but performance remains at the centre of the design.

The Rust hose is made using the same high-performance construction as the rest of our LINEA hybrid hose collection.

It is a flexible, durable and kink-resistant garden hose, designed for everyday watering while maintaining its shape and appearance.

The hose is finished with solid brass garden hose fittings, bringing together practical performance and a refined material palette.

Because we do not believe customers should have to choose between a hose that performs well and one that looks beautiful.

Rethinking Everyday Garden Products

A garden hose may seem like a small detail.

But small details are often what make a space feel complete.

As Australian homes and gardens become more thoughtfully designed, the practical objects used within them deserve the same attention.

The Rust Hybrid Garden Hose is our way of showing that functional garden equipment does not have to look industrial.

It can be durable, practical and beautifully designed.

We do not think this will be the last time you see us challenge the assumptions people have about everyday garden products.
